The fast transformation of Kota Kinabalu’s landscape means layers of new office buildings, shopping malls and hotels have been filling the bustling city. Amidst all the changes that are taking place, there’s a 10-storey hotel which has been around for ages and still stand stall in the heart of the city. This hotel is Hotel Shangri-La (not associated to the Shangri-La’s chain). Established since 1976, Hotel Shangri-La’s is one of the oldest hotels in Sabah, when tourism has yet to boom and the happy news is, their commendable customer service lives on.
Our recent visit to the hotel was a testament that the hotel has been gearing up for changes. A renovation exercise was carried out in March 2006 to ensure the hotel is more appealing to business travelers, foreign and local tourists. The hotel boasts 121 modern rooms which comprise single & double Deluxe and Suite rooms, with the choice of city view and jungle view. Don’t worry about checking your Facebook or email, the guest rooms are all equipped with complimentary wi-fi.
The hotel does not provide a swimming pool but it is an ideal 3-star that is located close to shops, shopping malls, cinemas, pubs, eateries, financial centers, the Gaya Street Sunday Market and most importantly it is pretty easy to get your transportation to survey around Kota Kinabalu and its vicinity. Too tired to go out for a meal? Hotel Shangri-La offers international buffet and ala carte menus in its Tivoli Cafe & Bar. Serving time are as follows:
Breakfast: 6.30am – 10.00am
Lunch: 11.30am – 2.30pm
For guests who are planning to try this hotel, we wish you a pleasant stay and don’t forget to catch a free shuttle service to Borneo’s largest hypermall, 1Borneo! Advance booking required.
