Our New Experience at the Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

A 6-month face lifting exercise has auspiciously turned this luxurious 492-room resort into a refined jewel in Borneo. Set on the edge of the azure blue South China Sea near Kota Kinabalu, the 29-year old beach resort has been a regular winner of international awards for its outstanding hospitality, facilities and conservation endeavors. Facts and figures aside, our latest visit to the resort was indelibly filled with unmistakable sense of satisfaction – immensely a renewed feeling after numerous visits in yesteryears.
Our first impression was engraved with the rebranded recreation facilities outside the main wings. Kids and their parents were seen having fun at the spanking water play area with the likes of waterslides, water fountains, a super splash bucket and water balloon battle stations. Additional feature includes Cool Box, the resort’s interactive ice-cream bar offering sweet tidings for dessert junkies.
To counter Borneo’s warm tropical weather, taking a dip inside the newly completed 2,000 square meter infinity pool is a must try experience. Even when you are not there, the feeling of indulging in the seemingly borderless pool, which looks over the 5 gorgeous islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is so vivid. Alternatively, take advantage of Borneo’s generous sunshine by luxuriating in their custom built jacuzzi beds beside the pool.

The resort is also pleased to introduce its brand new Health Club, complete with the very latest exercise gears.
If the thought of so many activities give you an appetite, rejuvenate yourself at the Coco-Joe’s Bar & Grill. Thumb ups for Joe’s Seafood Lighthouse, a triple-tiered seafood platter featuring Borneo’s fresh-from-the-ocean favorites or kick back with cocktails at the restaurant’s modern beach facing bar. For dinner, Coco-Joe’s Bar & Grill is all geared up to present a romantic private dining overlooking Borneo’s famous sunset. Barbecue-it-yourself al fresco dining is another option to maximize our time out with family and friends.
All in all, it was a new delighting experience of hanging out at the 5-star resort, much less, if to enjoy a pampering stay while on a holiday here in Kota Kinabalu. A big thank you to the Management and all the warm and hospitable staff of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa!See Kota Kinabalu Tour.By Willie Ki
