My Stay In Borneo – Part 2

The Islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park (on the edge of Kota Kinabalu)
Take a pleasant walk through the small city of Kota Kinabalu to Jesselton Point. At this place you will take a boat ride to one the islands. This island group features 5 islands: Gaya Island , Manukan Island , Mamutik Island , Sapi Island and Sulug Island. Like what you can see on the picture, the white area is the waterfront and the islands are just approximately 20 minutes away. The marine park was named after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman (1951- 1971). He led the way to the independence of Malaysia in 1957.
Manukan & Mamutik
I have only visited 2 islands so far. My friend and I just wanted a relaxing snorkeling and resting day on the beach so that’s why we chose these two islands. The journey to this island was really fun! Just bounce into the waves and feel the breeze on your skin. Once you arrive on the islands all you see is beach & really clear water with lots of fish and unfortunately in the dry hot season (March-July) you probably also see a lot of jellyfish, but it makes it perfect for snorkeling. You would almost forget about all the people who are also enjoying the island, like you. You can walk around the island, have lunch for approximately RM 4, play volleyball or just sit on the grass and socialize with the locals who spend their day there. It was a fantastic day, but make sure you bring lots of sun block! At Manukan Island you can spend the night in comfortable lodges. When you think about it, it is almost like a fantasy; sleeping on a desert island, in a nice wooden lodge with amazing sea view. The cost for one night is around RM 350 (€81,00 – £71,00 – $109,00). For me that was a little out of my budget.
